Series Overview
The protagonist, Chloe King, is a teenager who discovers she has special cat-like powers, including nine lives, superhuman speed, strength, hearing, agility, night vision and the ability to extend her nails like cat claws. When Chloe realizes a mysterious figure is shadowing her, she goes on to uncover that she is a descendant of an ancient race called the Mai. She discovers she has 9 lives and is told by Jasmine and Alek that she may be the key to protecting the race from human assassins who have hunted them for thousands of years.
Production
The show is written by Dan Berendsen and is based on Alloy’s series of three young-adult books by Celia Thomson. Alloy Entertainment is producing the series.
Promotion
In preparation for the premiere, ABCFamily.com rolled out “The Nine Paths to Chloe King,” an online game encouraging users to uncover the secrets of the Mai and find The Uniter in order to unlock exclusive content and enter to win a chance to visit the set. Bloggers, or members of the Circle of Strangers, shared additional clues for the game, and users were encouraged to follow their sites as well as their twitter feeds with the term #NinePaths.
Opening Sequence
The opening sequence begins with brown clouds covering the golden gate bridge in San Francisco, California. Then, the clouds turn black, as you see them cover the bridge and then they uncover to show a city with sky scrapers. Suddenly, you see Chloe jump down onto a roof lining. She is looking away from the camera for a few seconds, and then looks into the camera and forms a smirk on her face. The camera zooms into her eyes, which are blue. She blinks a couple times and they turn into green, cat eyes. The camera zooms into the pupil until the screen if fully dark, and then in blue and black the title forms.
